Part IV: Systemic Coupling and Attractor States
Periodontal disease operates not as a simple infection, but as a highly complex, nonlinear dynamical system governed by stable attractor states and deeply integrated with whole-body physiology through systemic coupling (Ψ). Within this framework, disease does not emerge from the linear accumulation of bacteria alone. Instead, it reflects a systemic phase transition in which local oral dysbiosis and body-wide inflammatory networks become mutually reinforcing. The periodontium is not an isolated tissue compartment; it is a regulatory node embedded within a multiscale biological network.
